Barcode Activity

As part of our reportage and editorial project we were given the task to look into conceptual illustration and see how we could use our work to tell a message in a clever way. Conceptual illustration is often found in magazines and newspapers often commenting on social and political subjects. During our lecture we were given a range of examples before being given our 'barcode' task.

For the barcode task we were given seven subjects:
-Education
- Environment
 -Fast fashion
 -Home
 -Health
 -Food ( sustainability etc )
-Travel

The idea was that for each subject we had to create some small thumbnail doodles relating to the different projects. Above shows my sketchbook page of ideas. What I liked for this task was that we could be as literal and as abstract as we liked. My particular favourite i think was the health vaccine barcode. I created this doodle based on the idea of health and the cost of the current covid vaccine. I felt a barcode could signify a lot for this meaning with not only being the cost but also the importance and value it has on us and our situation right now. it was fun to play around with the idea of the different sizes and how this could reflect the barcode s traditional shape.

Moving forward if i was to improve i think i would look more of an abstract approach maybe playing around more and thinking less literal as well as maybe developing it further digitally to give it more of a professional finalised look.
