Christmas letter

Merry Christmas Letter Form

As part of our reportage activity we were to create a letter form inspired by the theme of Christmas. The idea of the project is that we were each given a letter that would make up the word 'merry'. For my drawings i was given the letter E and was only able to use the colours, red, yellow and green.

To begin this project i began by looking as some typography inspiration on pinterest, looking at different shapes and overall style and just seeing which i feel really appealed to me. From here i was able to begin sketching down some ideas of different thumbnails looking at what different symbols i could use to really give that christmas feel. I also experimented with some different shapes, some being 3D and some more cursive. I traditionally would go with a typography with a modern calligraphy style. However, for this activity i really wanted to push myself and therefore went for something a bit bolder.

Once i had a play with some sketches i decided to pick out my favourite bold type and moved this over to ,my ipad where i worked digitally. I chose to work digitally as i wanted to be able to play with that simplistic style and it also gave me the freedom to play with the colours as well as change the size required for the brief. As for the actual shape of the letter i really liked it as it appeared strong and bold yet ha ssome imperfections within the straight lines which i felt gave it an overall sense of character. AS for the decoration for the letter, i chose to include a bit of everything as in my life christmas always has this idea of Christmas chaos everything seeming a bit mad and busy but overall organised and perfect. I wanted to reflect the organised chaos within my letter and therefore included some heavy tinsel some fun christmas light and other decorative elements such as seasonal botanicals and star patterns.

Overall I was really happy with how my letter developed and feel like it really gave the message i wanted with the overall vibe i was going for.
