In preparation for our editorial project we were asked to look into three subjects that we were passionate about and find a few facts and articles relating to each. For mine I chose climate change and plastic pollution, feminism and finally social media specifically relating to body image. i am passionate about all these subjects in different ways, and therefore found they would be interesting choices for this task.
Once we had chosen our three subjects we were asked to think about them visually creating smaller illustrations and doddles of each . The idea of the task was for us to think about how we could capture this message visually using symbols and metaphors. For example, for plastic pollution i included the recycling symbol as this plays a big part in the fight against plastic pollution along with some plastic objects, such as bags and straws. I felt it would be good to have much more of a literal approach as well to make the message clearer. Whilst for feminism i included some elements such as needles and pills to highlight the current issue of spiking within clubs and other areas on females. I also included some more metaphorical elements such as flowers to represent the softness of a woman and yet her strength that she holds. Whilst for social media i included a rang of doodles from well used icons to body image doodles all of which i feel personally relate to social media and the beauty standard.
Overall i found this task quite enjoyable as it allowed me to relax and really think about visual symbols and metaphors. Moving forward i feel i am going to go along the lines of social media and body image as this is a subject that stands out o be personally.
