Visual Inspiration

As part of my project i thought it would be great to look at a range of images and illustrations that link to my project to see how these could help inspire me and my style of work. All images collected here are from Pinterest and belong to various different artists and illustrators.

Social media inspired

Below shows a range of illustrations I collected off of Pinterest all relating to social media for many different reasons. Both seem to have positive vibes obviously not talking about effects of social media on body image, however, I found these images rather inspirational  to my work as I liked how  they use elements of social media to add to the overall message whilst thinking about the composition of the piece.

I also like the colours of the first piece as they create a high contrast with bold toned colours and really draw the eye into the piece and therefore would work well as a conceptual illustration.

General Body Positivity

I also looked at the idea of body positivity illustrations, these are currently very popular and can be seen on a range of positive accounts that have been created to help break up the pressure of the beauty standard.

I particularly like these pieces of art for different reasons as they all communicate the message in such amazing ways, for example the piece below uses bold colours to really draw the attention whilst being finished with type to really add to that message.

Whilst i particularly like that this second picture is more daring and makes the reader look further, and although it has that edgy topic and message behind it, it has an overall soft feel as though it is giving off that feminine feel creating a connection between the reader and message. I feel this has especially been done well as the artist surrounded the different women in different buds and flowers showing that they are all different shapes, sizes and colours and yet are still considered beautiful much like we should see each other and ourselves. The idea of the flower also relates to that soft feminine feel that the illustration is giving.

The third image has a very different to the other two as has a strong focus on the idea of typography and how it could be used within the work to create a stronger feel for the message. I also particularly liked the colour choice as it has that fun bubbly feel whilst also adding to that overall feminine look.

This last piece had been a favourite of mine since seeing it, it had such a simple idea and style and yet      it looks so effective within the composition and colouring. The way the character is stood holding herself in am embrace as if to thank an appreciate herself and her body. I particularly love that only three colours have been used to create a strong contrast that draws your eyes inwards to the image and the thing that's being captured.

Compositions I like

Below shows some illustrations which i found on Pinterest, i chose these and placed them together as i particularly liked the composition in which they have been shown. For example this piece below shows a range of drawing of different poses, i particularly like this as the bodies seem to fit together like a jigsaw. Although there is no main single process i lover that the composition created this sense of fullness within the work.

This second piece has a similar effect with the composition working like a jigsaw yet this time the women are closely fit together making it appear busy and tight yet creates this idea of unity, i particularly like this image as although it does not link much to my work I like how every time you look you seem to spot something new.

Now the las two images have different compositions yet both appear interesting and use the idea of flowers to create this idea of femininity and beauty within the body. For example i like how in the first of the two, the girls are stood amongst the flowers that tower over them, this gives the sense that they are apart of this as they appreciate the flowers beauty in its individual way, similar to how they should appreciate their own.

Now the last image reallt caught my eye again for the bright colours and fun funky composition choice, I like hoe they thought about colours looking at the bright side of battle tones giving more of that fun effect instead of soft, as seen in the other illustrations. I also like the use of pattern that can be seen throughout.

I feel by looking at a range of visual examples it helps me to see how i could create my message conceptionally using illustration. Moving forward I now intend to create some thumbnails of my idea relating to the topic and see how they could be developed to create the final front cover.
