final map- risograph

Risograph Printing and Map Design

AS part of our illustration and communication project we were to take part in a range of printing workshops all looking at different printing techniques and using them to see how we could expand out ideas and designs. Earlier on in the project i had collected some research of illustrated amps as well as created a plan for my own map. The idea of this is that the design would then be split into two layers and printed using the risograph printing method. When thinking about my map it was important to picture the colours and how they colour overlap using the gradient to create a whole new colour shade and depth.

For my Piece i chose to go with the deep blue and pink, I chose these two colours as i particularly liked how they contrasted against each other. I also felt the idea of the strong blue against the muted toned pink would be a great way to add detail  to the piece. Originally when creating the piece i was getting loss within the detail and adding too much to individual drawings taking away from the overall feel of th epiece. Therefore after a critiquer and discussion with MOlly i decided to srip some of this elements back looking more at how i could use the empty space to add shapes to the piece, for example the road is just mepy space within both layers and therefore adds a whole other colour to the piece.

Overall I was really happy with how this turned out, i think the style really worked with the type of printing and i loved the texture that was given within the piece. However if i was to improve i would perhaps think about playing around more closely with the gradients of th ecolours as i would have much preferred for th epink background to be much brighter and bolder.
